It was an enjoyable game but it had so many errors and mistakes and they weren’t hidden very well. KHIII with Re:Mind gives it the push it needs to be worthy of the title of a main installment of the franchise. Riku and Kairi not interacting at all really threw me off, plus there were so many loose ends needing to be tied up that they kinda left hanging.Īs far as Kingdom Hearts games goes, base KHIII really doesn't compare to KHII. Character interactions definitely improved, but there was still work that needed to be done here and there. Not gonna lie, most of it should've just been part of the base game.

Story-wise it felt like they spent more time patching up the original story than anything else. Data Greeting even made Destiny Islands and Radiant Garden playable, despite obvious limitations. Re:Mind came in and improved in some aspects, especially when it comes to exploring Scala ad Caelum. Story was definitely rushed, and we really didn't get to see much character interaction at all between the trios and even within trios in some cases. Even then, there isn't much exploring of unique worlds at all, it's mainly JUST boss battle after boss battle. Was eh at first, since most of the plot really doesn't pick up at all until all the Disney Worlds are completed. Frozen and Tangled worlds lost points for being a bit boring and samey but they made up for it with fidelity to their respective movie worlds. Levels like Monstropolis and Toy Story were so much fun, and the open sections like The Caribbean and San Fransokyo were breathtaking to behold and tons of fun to explore. Still, it had some amazing moments for those invested in the larger narrative. Plus they just kind of retcon the main villain's motivations at the end, which bothered me.

The Disney worlds feel irrelevant, the interesting stuff is all stuffed into the endgame, and the plot is full of convoluted twists, half explained ideas, and plot threads that require an entire series knowledge to understand. Story: Really inconsistent and poorly paced. Makes you feel like a badass tho and there's always things to experiment with. There's so much going on all the time that it keeps things from getting boring, but the flip side is you always have something you can pull out and very infrequently face genuine difficulty. Gameplay: Fun but frantic, flashy but unchallenging.
